Biography
Peter McSweeney is a contemporary landscape artist from Douglas, Cork. McSweeney graduated from Ballyfermot College Dublin in 1999 with a Diploma in Classical Animation. On completion of his studies he moved to West Cork where inspired by the surrounding landscape he began his journey as an artist.
Over the decades since McSweeney has continued to explore many aspects of oil painting. He has a profound sympathy with unspoilt wild Irish landscapes, excised of artificial structures and traces. He will make extended observations in remote locations, sometimes simply being present, experiencing phenomena whether it is the roar of waves crashing against the coastline or the vast stillness of the bogs and meadows of the heartlands.
Multiple viewers of McSweeney's work have been moved to remark on the tactile nature of his paintings when seen en vivo. He is reticent to articulate aloud a specific aim for his work, deferring to the subjectivity of the viewer, but has noted this particular response has a resonance for him.
McSweeney now divides his time as a tutor and painting in his studio in Cootehall, Co Roscommon.
